A Nirvana tie in is one reason I wanted to have the Fecal version of Spank Thru on the box; it was an early version of a song they later released, plus Dale was even in Nirvana on occasion, and was certainly playing drums when they first professionally recorded the song. I guess that kind of reasoning would have excluded Do Re Mi, so I’m not really sure what the answer is to your question. Maybe because that song had been floating around longer and there was never any question about its being a good song. It’s actually my favorite on the box. I don’t recall anyone ever saying it shouldn’t be on. Though I never got specifics on where/when it was recorded. Though as one of Kurt’s last songs, its historical importance is obvious, so I'm glad it was included."
The only version I ever heard of DRM is the one on the box. I've never spoken w/anyone who heard any alt version(s), nor was any other version ever mentioned for consideration on the box."

"The last time I saw Kurt was at the Live N Loud show, 12/13/93. I was backstage and he was walking by w/Courtney. She was the one I knew more, so I waved her over. Kurt looked like he'd just woken up, and I wondered how the show would go that night. But I thought it was great, wow, he really bounced back, I thought.
I don't know much about the "last days." I was trying to set up an interview w/Courtney for the Rocket at that time. There had been the overdose in March, and things were postponed for a while, but then we went back to trying to schedule it, so I thought everything was fine. It wasn't until the day of the interview, April 5, that I knew something might be wrong. Charley Cross (ed of Rocket) called me about noon and said he'd heard Nirvana were pulling out of Lollapalooza and breaking up. I called the hotel at 4 pm as scheduled and was told the room wasn't taking calls. That isn't such a big deal; often it means they're just not ready for you. I left my name and number, and in about 20 mins Eric Erlandson called back. He told me Courtney was ill. We talked a bit. I avoided asking anything about Nirvana, trying to be "professional." He said he would try and get her to call me. When I told Charley I hadn't got the interview, he said if I didn't hear by noon on Weds, they'd have to pull the story (which was to be the cover). Obviously, I didn't hear back, so the cover was pulled, and Pavement was made the new cover. But you know, I still didn't think anything was wrong at the time. The interview had already been cancelled once previously, so I thought it was just happening again.
Then of course on Friday we heard about Kurt's death and the Pavement cover was pulled to make Kurt the cover, and I wrote that story. It all just seemed unreal."
